In second place among the largest German construction companies is Strabag with a turnover of almost 6.6 billion euros in 2020.  It is the German branch of the Austrian company based in Cologne. Active in the construction industry, Strabag operates not only in Austria and Germany but also in Southern and Eastern Europe. The German division of Strabag employs around 22,000 people.1. With sales of EUR 22.98 billion in 2020, the listed Hochtief AG is the largest construction company in Germany. The Essen-based company employs more than 45,600 people and implements infrastructure projects worldwide. Hochtief, for example, built the underground line 4 in Hamburg, built the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, built the Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt and built the well-known Zeche Zollverein in Essen.
